Signature Fundraiser: Pink Rose Cotillion

Epsilon Beta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is a not -for- profit organization which regularly uses Cotillions and other Formal Balls in congruent with alternative pledges and enterprises to generate funds in support of its Educational Scholarship Program and other Alpha Kappa Alpha Initiatives. Epsilon Beta Omega Chapter usually offers the Cotillion/Formal Ball experience to young ladies in Middle School and High School bi-annually.

In preparation to be presented in an Epsilon Beta Omega Cotillion/Formal Ball of elegance, each young lady is sponsored by a chapter member in Epsilon Beta Omega, who works with the parents to provide educational experiences, charitable awareness, social graces, charm, fitness, etiquette and eventually proper dress for the Ball event. A calendar of workshops, events and/or meetings with sponsors and the chapter is given to each family at the initial meeting with the young ladies and their families. Cotillion/Formal Ball Winners are chosen to be crowned as Miss Debutante and Miss Sub-debutante at each Cotillion/Formal Ball event; however, all participants receive appropriate gifts and recognition.

Mrs. Margarette Bell Miller, a Golden member of the Epsilon Beta Omega Chapter who also owned and operated an eminent Dance Studio for many years and presented numerous Dance Recitals in Spartanburg and the Upstate of South Carolina, conjointly administered oversight over the majority of Epsilon Beta Omega’s Cotillion/Formal Balls through the years, along with the Chapter’s Cotillion/Formal Ball Chairmen.

Epsilon Beta Omega Chapter Cotillion/Formal Ball History

(Note: 1982-2000) After presenting the Miss Autumn Queen Formal Ball in 1970 and the Miss Debutante Formal Ball in 1972, the chapter saw the need to find an alternate or an additional fundraiser due to the unexpected precarious state of the national economy, and the rising cost of living. Our chapter member, Mrs. Deloris Ham Oliver, who served on the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Directorate as the South Atlantic Regional Director and traveled extensively with that leadership, became aware and shared insight with the chapter about the fundraising successes of the traveling “Sepia Fashion Review-Hamilton Vogue-Esquire Models of Chicago, Illinois.” In an Epsilon Beta Omega business meeting, after discussion and a presentation of fundraising income gains and losses, Mrs. Oliver was instructed to contact the proprietor, Mr. Hamilton, for details about its fundraising opportunities. Epsilon Beta Omega Chapter members concurrently decided to engage Sepia Fashion Review to present in Spartanburg, South Carolina as a fundraiser. Hamilton Vogue Models presented as Epsilon Beta Omega’s fundraiser each year from 1982-2000.
